Volunteering In Our Communities

After the holidays, many organizations have difficulty keeping volunteers; in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and in support of our communities, I have chosen to post a couple of volunteer websites in order to help make this year an even more productive year for us all.

One of my favorite local programs is New York Cares.  The flexibility of volunteer options is incredible.  Volunteers can plan ahead by signing up for events and programs, or if you are unable to plan ahead you can join a “hot project” in need of volunteers for the current week from their weekly email. You may contact New York Cares at:

Habitat for Humanity has volunteering and support opportunities throughout the world, and gives much needed relief to those impacted by homelessness. You can find your local chapter or support the international chapters of Habitat for Humanity by visiting their website at:

There are so many great organizations for us to support.  Please feel free to leave a comment with information about your favorite volunteer organizations.  Thank you.

An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.  ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
