On this Memorial Day, remember those who have passed, those who served and those who are continuing to serve; thank them, their families and friends, but also remember to support our troops who are an all volunteer force of men and women which comprises less than 1% of our population.

Our troops serve us by protecting our country, and we need to serve our troops by supporting them. Yet, our troops suffer from increased rates of unemployment, homelessness, health issues, and most notably suicide. We need to reach out to help, and opportunities abound if you are so inclined.

Here are links to specific organizations to provide assistance in your quest to support our troops and their families:

Blue Star Families: “Support. Connect. Empower. By Military Families For Military Families.”

Code of Support: “Bridging the gap between civilian and military America”

Operation Homefront: “Provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of our service members and wounded warriors.”

And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.
