Stop For-profit #Incarceration

DF_j3zxUQAE40fW

Privatization is not the answer, especially in the prison sector. As a nation, we’ve gone from championing each citizen’s day in court to bailouts for the wealthy while lower- and middle-class citizens go to jail.

It’s far past the time to stop corporations from taking advantage of our citizens in exorbitant bail and for-profit prisons.

Stop the corporate hold on citizens’ lives and support The Reverse Mass Incarceration Act of 2017 by contacting your local, city, state and federal representatives. Ask your representatives to support the new Senate Bill because it creates incentives to reduce mass incarceration.

Money will determine whether the accused goes to prison or walks out of the courtroom a free man. – Johnnie Cochran

The Ultimate Sacrifice & Hope

This Memorial Day, I honor all of our fallen heroes for their ultimate sacrifice and hope for peace in our world.

On Memorial Day, I don’t want to only remember the combatants. There were also those who came out of the trenches as writers and poets, who started preaching peace, men and women who have made this world a kinder place to live. -Eric Burdon

Stop Genocide. #Petition #Syria

C8qM0_FXYAA2mRiWhen I was in grade school, I came across a small paragraph in my history book, leaving a horrific impression on me; it explained how a father had to send his son to a shower, one that would bring on his child’s death. My young mind couldn’t fathom how this could happen (or why such an atrocity received a mere paragraph in a history book).

But now as an adult, I’m left wondering again. How does mass genocide occur when so many of us are fully aware of what’s going on? We have no excuse. We know. We must hold our elected officials accountable, so no more people are killed in the name of evil.  We must stop genocide.

Using IT for Political Advocacy

While many citizens choose Twitter and/or Facebook to advocate for important causes (or just vent), it’s definitely not the only weapon in the advocacy arsenal.

Countable and VoteSpotter are two apps enabling social advocates and political junkies to obtain info regarding issues and bills, so citizens can respond in real time to their elected officials.

We need everyone to fight for our Rights. Please contact your elected officials and tell them what’s important in your life. Remember, they work for you.

Do the elected officials in Washington stand with ordinary Americans – working families, children, the elderly, the poor – or will the extraordinary power of billionaire campaign contributors and Big Money prevail? The American people, by the millions, must send Congress the answer to that question. -Bernie Sanders
