Stop Genocide. #Petition #Syria

C8qM0_FXYAA2mRiWhen I was in grade school, I came across a small paragraph in my history book, leaving a horrific impression on me; it explained how a father had to send his son to a shower, one that would bring on his child’s death. My young mind couldn’t fathom how this could happen (or why such an atrocity received a mere paragraph in a history book).

But now as an adult, I’m left wondering again. How does mass genocide occur when so many of us are fully aware of what’s going on? We have no excuse. We know. We must hold our elected officials accountable, so no more people are killed in the name of evil.  We must stop genocide.

Liberty is Not Just a Statue in the Harbor

October 28, 2011 Leave a comment

Tonight there will be fireworks celebrating the 125th Anniversary of the unveiling of the Statue of Liberty; this morning there were fireworks, but less than expected at Zuccotti “Liberty” Park between the NYPD, FDNY and the Protesters over their need for generators. Yes, it’s cold out there, but these protesters gave up their generators, and are still keeping the spotlight on issues impacting 99% of our nation. For that, I thank thee oh protesters for liberty to thee I write.  Yes, I wish to give thanks to those who protest the loss of our liberties, the direction our nation is taking and the lack of accountability which prevails.  Furthermore, I ask those who have not become involved with the trajectory our nation is taking to please support your causes either through protesting or petitioning.  Links to support these actions are offered further down this post.

To date, many who support the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement who are unable to attend in New York City started their own movements across our nation and even around the world!  On October 15, 2011, it was my honor to attend the Times Square protest as a part of Occupy the World; it was an incredible sight to see, but there was an active force attempting to end the protest.  It was this event which prompted me to offer information to protesters from the NYCLU about your rights as a protester: Knowing Your Rights is the First Step in Standing up for Them!

Apparently, what I observed in Times Square was also observed by Author, Social Critic and Political Activist Naomi Wolf at an alternate OWS event.  Although she was not an OWS protester, she spoke up when she became aware of misinformation impacting them. Here she explains to Keith Olbermann our constitutional right to peacefully assemble, and the trickery that might impact that right: Naomi Wolf on Rights and Permits.

Again, most of these demonstrations are peaceful, but others are not – which in itself is an infringement on our rights to free speech and peacefully assemble. For those who were harmed at protests where violence occurred, I wish a quick and full recovery including injured Iraq War Veteran Scott Olsen of Occupy Oakland and Iraq Veterans Against the War.

Lastly, I know some citizens are not inclined to protest, but they may be inclined to petition for this or another cause.  If this is the case, being a patriot is that much easier since you can start a petition online through the White House: Petition the White House with We the People

And remember, Liberty is not just a statue in the harbor…

This Land Is Your Land

This land is your land,
This land is my land,

To the New York island,
From the Redwood Forest,
To the Gulf stream waters,
This land was made for you and me…”

The White Ribbon Campaign Petition

Domestic violence causes far more pain than the visible marks of bruises and scars. It is devastating to be abused by someone that you love and think loves you in return. It is estimated that approximately 3 million incidents of domestic violence are reported each year in the United States.” -Dianne Feinstein, American Senator
