Help the NOFD

February 7, 2007 Leave a comment

Well Kiddies, I’m attempting to bring in the big guns since I can’t seem to find contact info for the NOFD. I’ve emailed everyone’s favorite talk show: Ellen, since she’ been proactive with Katrina Survivors; and I’ve found the link for Denis Leary’s website set up to help firefighters (see below). Someone mentioned on the show that the NOFD does not receive federal, state, or city funds and the only help they can get right now is through Denis Leary’s foundation; here’s the link: http://www.learyfirefighters.org/

The link gives you the opportunity to donate, volunteer and/or be placed on a mailing list.

New Orleans Fire Department Engine 7

February 7, 2007 Leave a comment

I just watched a program about the Firefighters of Engine 7 from New Orleans. It was called Inside Engine 7 and was on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams; here’s the link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032619/

These men lost so much from the effects of Hurricane Katrina, but they are trying to keep their department to help the community of New Orleans. Not unlike our Firefighters of 9/11, they need our help. (And, in fact, the NOFD did help the NYFD during 9/11.)

In the years after 9/11, I was fortunate enough to work with NY Cares to paint firehouses in the New York City Area. One of the first firehouses did not have blankets. I contacted a few companies and was befriended by a kind businessman who welcomed the opportunity to supply comforters to NY’s Bravest.

I’m hoping that we can do the same for NO’s Bravest. They’ll be looking for monetary donations I’m sure, but it might be possible that certain items could be sent that might help out too.

If you’re interested in helping please jump on board! Any suggestions will be most welcome.

All the best,
CL

Note: Thanks to the producers of NBC Nightly News for shedding light on this situation as well as keeping a bright light on the entire area impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
